Death Comes to Pemberley Review

What I liked:It is always fun to revisit characters that you love. Having the chance to check in on Elizabeth and Darcy several years after the end of Pride and Prejudice is no exception. Of this three episode movie the first is definitely the best: it does a good job of capturing the characters that we love and the situations and relationships that continue to work well and the ones that becoming increasingly trying for example, Darcy’s sister Georgina being in-laws with Wickam or Elizabeth continuing to battle the judgement of her peers and relatives that Darcy made a terrible mistake in marrying her. Lydia did a appallingly wonderful job in her roll and Mrs Bennet was entertaining as ever. What I didn’t: While the first episode is at least plausible from the book, each successive episode becomes more ridiculous. By the end there seems to be a full departure from the values of Georgian society and I found the characters decisions unbelievable and at odds with what we know of them

Mr Holmes Review

What I liked: This is a good drama with a well told mystery side. I liked thinking about what Sherlock Holmes did with his retirement, though I’m not sure that it was beekeeping. I also liked that Sherlock had spent most of his life learning that sometimes a fiction can be as good or better than a fact. What I didn’t: I was expecting something along the lines of Once a Spy where the main character has bouts of lucidity and lapses of senility. I think that would have been exciting and made for a very different storytelling approach. As it was Holmes’ forgetfulness filled the role of Watson, something to slow him down and make him expl

Terminator Genysis Review

Terminator Genysis What I liked: What could be better than a movie in which the main characters use all kinds of ridiculous weaponry to try and beat an indestructible cyborg from the future who has an overwhelming grudge against said main characters?  A movie in which the main characters use even more high powered weaponry to fight 4 cyborgs from the future. The shotgun was back, the grenade launching automatic whatever was back, the entire arsenal of a small South American country was back. There were terminators made of liquid metal with knife hands, there were terminators made of the nano-bots from big hero, there were completely indestructible terminators and more destructible terminators. There were explosions and dump trucks and acid and molten metal. Pretty much if you like seeing things get smashed, melted, shattered, or blown up this was pretty cool in an over the top really ridiculous way. What I didn’t: That being said if at any point during the movie you stop watchi
